School started. Dax loves it. I hate it. I just hate that he's gone 7 hours of the day and I could teach all of that in 2 hours. But, there was no way I could have kept him home as he was SO excited and claims he is loving ALL of it.
So our theme for this year is
"Stand, even if it means standing alone" ~
John McCallister
We know that Dax will likely be faced with challenges and opportunities to stand alone when it is completely uncool and unpopular.

We also highlighted and will revisit the example of Moroni in the Book of Mormon throughout the year. He is such a great example of standing alone and and being true and faithful until the end. For years he carried the gold plates around running from his enemies. In Mormon 8: 3 it reads "
And my father also was killed by them, and I even remain alone to write the sad tale of the destruction of my people. But behold, they are gone, and I fulfill the commandment of my father. And whether they will slay me, I know not." and in vs. 5 "My father hath been slain in battle and all my kinsfolk, and I have not friends nor whither to go..."
Pres. Hinckley said of Moroni,
"He was a man who walked alone for years, a fugitive from his enemies who were unrelenting in their pursuit.... He was military commander, prophet historian, the last of the Nephite survivors.... Who can sense the depth of his pain, the poignant loneliness that constantly overshadowed him as he moved about, a fugitive relentlessly hunted by his enemies? For how long he actually was alone we do not know, but the record would indicate that it was for a considerable period. His conversation was prayer to the Lord. His companion was the Holy Spirit. There were occasions when the Three Nephites administered to him. But with all this, there is an element of terrible tragedy int he life of this man who became a lonely wanderer."
Because of Moroni we have the Book of Mormon. How grateful I am in my life for the man who chose to endure and stand alone when he had no one but the Lord to turn to.

I love this idea of displaying kids art found from this blog. Mine sits above my bar in my kitchen. It's likely my favorite spot in the house.

I read your post to John, and he was very honored! I think that's a great message to send to your kids. I'm glad school is going smoothly so far for Dax, and that it gives you a little more time with the other two while he's gone.

By the way, great idea about how to post their artwork. I'll have to jerry-rig something like that at our house.

Jack starts a week from yesterday...
All you said is so true! I love your family theme... it is scary sending your child off to conquer the world (for at least part of the day) alone.

Miss you, miss you, miss you!!
